Girl group, G.R.L., is back as a trio with new ’90s-inspired dance track about self-love, “Kiss Myself.” OG members, Lauren Bennett and Natasha Slayton, are joined by newcomer, and self proclaimed G.R.L. Stan, Jazzy Mejia. The then five-member G.R.L. disbanded shortly after the tragic death of member, Simone Battle, in 2014. The quartet attempted to make a comeback months with a tribute song for their fallen sister, “Lighthouse.” There’s no word yet on why Paula Van Oppen and Emmalyn Estrada opted to not be part of the project.
“We are so honored to be able to offer her this special opportunity, as she has been a devoted fan of GRL since the beginning, and now will be living out her dreams of performing on stage as a REAL GRL! Besides her raw talent, she is kind hearted and willing to put in the work necessary to make GRL greater than ever,” the girls said in a statement.
“Kiss Myself” is a cute lead off track. The ’90s dance production seems a bit dated in the “chill” and “artsy fartsy” landscape that mainstream pop 2016, but that may just be the thing that sets the apart.
