Britney Spears To Perform Medley Of Hits At The Billboard Music Awards

The drinking game word of the night is ICONIC

The time has come! It has been officially announced that Britney Spears will make her triumphant return to the award show stage at this year’s Billboard Music Awards. She’s rumored to be debuting her new single (“Make Me (Oooh)”) off of the yet to be titled B9, along with a medley of some of her greatest hits. Ms. Spears will also be honored with the Millenium award at the ceremony. It will be Award Showney’s first venture onto the stage since her fateful 2007 MTV Video Music Awards performance of “Gimme More.” I know, I know. Technically, she performed at both the 2011 and 2015 Billboard Music Awards, but I don’t count them because A) 2011 were merely guest appearances and B) 2015 was pre-taped and set at her Vegas Residency. Year after year the Britney Army fills the internet with lies hopeful rumors that our Queen will bless us with yet another iconic live performance to much disappointment. She couldn’t even get it together to perform an iconic medley of hits for her MTV Video Vanguard Award. In honor of Queen B’s return to the stage, I’ve compiled a list of Ms. Spears’ best award show performances.

10. “From The Bottom Of My Broken Heart/…Baby One More Time” Grammy Awards 2000

The first and only time Britney has performed at the Grammy Awards. A modern take on the Wizard of Oz served as inspiration for this “dreams do come true” performance. It also seems to be the catalyst to 2001’s Dream Within A Dream Tour in support of her third album, Britney.

9. “… Baby One More Time” Kid’s Choice Awards 1999

One word: Nipples.

8. “Sometimes/Crazy” Medley Teen Choice Awards 1999

The sign of an early 2000s performance was that of a medley and a dance break. Much like her Grammy performance, the Pop Princess opted to start her performance with a ballad version of “Sometimes” and straight into a Max Martin classic. I still to this day don’t understand why she always performed the album version of “Crazy” versus “The Stop Remix.”

7. “Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman” American Music Awards 2002

Balladney rarely makes an appearance, but when she does she proves to everyone that she is more than studio pop star reliant on autotune. Is it pitch perfect? No. But Brit Brit’s soft, husky voice carries enough character and emotion that it can distract from her awfully annoying background singers.

6. “… Baby One More Time/Tearin’ Up My Heart” with *NSYNC MTV Video Music Awards 1999

The remix, the bronzer, and the lip syncing of her spoken words were flawlessly iconic.

5. “Stronger” American Music Awards 2001

This is hands down my favorite Britney performance of all time. It’s not quite iconic enough to warrant it the top spot on this list, but the band was killer and I LIVE for the one backup dancer’s blonde wig coming off prematurely.

4. “Me Against The Music” American Music Awards 2003

Britney literally dropped in and dipped out for this performance as she took herself and her high pony straight from the stage to Jimmy Kimmel for a post show interview (You know, the one where she jokes about ODing and breaking up with Madonna). I do appreciate the re-recorded ad libs in the track… You know, so the lip sync wasn’t too obvious.

3. “Oops!… I Did It Again/Satisfaction” MTV Video Music Awards 2000

The 2000 VMAs was the year Britney officially showed everyone that she was not a one trick pony, but an artist in her own right. It was sexy. It was iconic. And most importantly, it was LIVE. Slayney at her finest.

2. “I’m A Slave 4 U” MTV Video Music Awards 2001

One year after she shocked everyone with her striptease, Britney was at it again to debut her new sexy, Pharrell-produced song. The iconic routine with the snake remains a staple Halloween costume for sororities everywhere.

1. “Like A Virgin/Hollywood” w/ Madonna, Christina Aguilera, & Missy Elliot MTV Video Music Awards 2003

Iconic. Enough said.
