I’ve said before that 2015 is going to be filled with artists to keep your eye on, and Candice Pillay is no exception. Maybe this is the first time you’ve heard her name, but you will not be unfamiliar with some of Pillay’s work. Responsible for Rihanna’s “Cockiness” and much of Christina Aguilera’s under recognized album, Lotus, Candice Pillay has been going hard with her pen game for years now. Originally released as a mixtape in December, Candice Pillay unveiled The Mood Kill, and IT. IS. EVERYTHING.
Complete with production from urban heavy hitters, Alex Da Kid (Rihanna’s “Love The Way You Lie,” Dirty Money’s “Coming Home,” B.O.B.’s “Airplanes”) and Dem Jointz (Lotus, DK3), The Mood Kill is an electronic, hip-hop, R&B experience showcasing Pillay’s strong writing skills and unique voice. From the intro, “Poor Girl,” to closer “Getaway,” each song seamlessly flows into the next, taking you on a emotional journey with risk taking sounds. after a few full run throughs of the impressive offering, it’s safe to say that Candice Pillay will be around for a while. Oh, and not to mention she’s assisting Aubrey O’Day & Shannon Bex with their new project. So you know she has my vote!
